A prayer for our parish:
Almighty and ever living God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ministries

Opportunities for Ministry

There are many opportunities for ministry:

  • Caring Committee
The Caring Ministry is a group of clergy and laity who meet to share information as to which parishioners need pastoral care. The group performs a needs assessment each month for parish nursing; the prayer chain and intercessory prayer; transportation, cards and meals; Eucharistic visits; and visiting people in home, hospital and care centers.
  • Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is responsible for the maintenance of church linens and vestments and for the dressing of the altar. Spectacular floral arrangements made by Altar Guild members from their own gardens are one example of their talent and dedication.
  • Choirs
The St. Augustine's choir is renowned throughout the region for its stirring and varied talents. Organist/Choirmaster Carol Foster welcomes anyone who has an interest in singing praises to God. The choir provides music for the 10:00 am service, for special Evensong presentations, and holiday celebrations. The choir is generally accompanied on the church's magnificent pipe organ, but the piano, flute, harp, cello, and other instruments are also often heard. The Children's Choir provides an opportunity for our youth to participate in Worship Services.
  • Sophia Singers
The Sophia Singers, a women's a cappella group, provide music for numerous community events as well as Eucharist celebrations.
  • Christian Education
The Sunday School for children meets at 9:45 a.m. in the Undercroft, with children joining their parents for Holy Eucharist in the Nave. A nursery is available in the Pre-School building during the 10:00 am service. High School and Middle School age youth are active in Diocesan activities, including weekend conferences and summer programs. An Adult Forum is held in the Undercroft at 9:15 a.m., between the 8 a.m. and 10:00 am celebrations.
  • Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
ECW is open to all women of the church and is best known for the Rack Sale each spring and the Trash and Treasures Sale held each fall. These community institutions raise funds for the various outreach projects of ECW. ECW is not all work, though, as various fun and fellowship activities are held monthly, including an Advent Tea in December and a picnic in June.

Opportunities for Outreach

There are many opportunities to help the community in which we live.

Mission Sunday Offerings (MSO)

MSO is one way we give back to our community. Every second Sunday this special collection is donated directly to a local organization.
